Ceramicspeed uses high-end brand chains to which an optimization treatment is applied. Ceramicspeed UFO chains go through a multi-step process where two layers of treatment are polished, cleaned and applied to achieve the most efficient chain possible. The UltraFast optimization process is not very technical, but it is very time consuming.
The wax mixture used to optimize the ultra-fast chains was discovered through intensive testing to find the fastest base. The base was then optimized to achieve the lowest friction values on the test equipment. After additional testing and several ratios of additives to base, the most efficient optimization formula was identified. Ceramicspeed took the original UltraFast optimization process formula and incorporated several improvements on top of the traditional treatment to achieve better results.
The Ceramicspeed UFO chain is a racing chain developed with the aim of achieving unsurpassed performance. It provides optimum performance in clean and dry conditions for about 600 km or more, after which the watts saved begin to diminish, but your used chain will continue to show signs of optimization and provide better performance than a normal chain. Maintaining and oiling your used chain with a wax-based lubricant with Teflon® will extend the life of your chain, save less watts than optimized and still perform above the level of a new standard chain. Ceramicspeed recommends the use of Squirt lubricant for maintenance interventions.
The optimization process
Optimizing a Ceramicspeed UFO chain is a multi-step process that begins with a polishing process for the sliding surfaces of the link, removing friction-generating surfaces such as roughness and manufacturing defects. The chain is followed by a cleaning routine to completely remove the inefficient lubricants and friction-generating contaminants that are created during the manufacturing process. The next steps require infusing the chain at optimal temperatures with the optimizing compound. For the final step, Teflon® powder is applied to the chain. The entire process allows the sliding surfaces of an ultra-fast Ceramicspeed UFO chain to have different layers of lubrication that work together as a system for the ultimate chain efficiency available.
Installing your new optimized chain is no different than installing any other chain.
Note that the chain is covered with Teflon® powder which may scatter when removed from the bag. Use the included gloves and cover the bottom when installing the Ceramicspeed UFO Racing Chain. Always connect the chain with the included connecting link. We recommend not reusing the connecting link. A chain tool is required to install your chain. Shorten the chain at optimal length.
When cutting the chain with the chain tool, remember that the cut must be made so that the chain ends are both inside plates. Attach the two parts of the connecting link at the point where the link rivet aligns with the hole in the connecting plate and then pull on the chain to activate the lock.
Within 600 km, do not wash the chain before the mileage is exceeded to get all the benefits of the Ceramicspeed UFO racing chain , but if your chain needs to be cleaned, use a dry cloth or soft brush and carefully remove the dirt from the chain. When removing the chain for maintenance or cleaning, remember to refit it in the same direction as before. A mild shower, where the chain has not been exposed to water for more than a few minutes, should not affect the chain's performance characteristics.
For light showers, we recommend applying UFO Drip Chain Coating after wiping off the excess Teflon powder with a dry cloth if there is any left on the chain. Allow the UFO Drip Chain Coating to dry before riding.
In case of heavy showers, you should cover your chain with a protective grease in addition to the UFO treatment. This has a slight effect on the wadding savings, but protects the chain and improves your performance at the same time.
After 600 km, the chain can be serviced, bearing in mind that traces of the optimization will still remain in the chain. When using the UFO drip chain coating after 600 km, follow the instructions on the bottle. Note that the enormous 2 to 5 watt wadding saving is achieved within the first interval of 600 km / 370 miles and decreases slightly after the end of the UFO treatment.
